Waterbirth is amazing! Think about it, any time you feel bad, you usually slip into a nice warm bath. The water offers an unbelievable reduction of pain in labor and birth. This is the reason it is compared to the epidural. And the highest benefit of water is that it doesn't have the potential side effects that an epidural has. Following a waterbirth, the mother can arise from the water, still walk and go to the bathroom on her own, this cannot be said of an epidural (which requires a foley-urinary catheter and requires the mother stay in bed until she regains the feeling in her legs.)
Aside from this pain reduction, it also assists the baby's physical and emotional transition from the womb to the bright, new, air-filled world. It is the gentlest and very safe way to bring your new little one into the world!
Alamo Area Midwifery no longer offers birth tub rental. However, check back for a list of recommended tubs that midwives love and are, at times, more affordable than a rental tub (and you have the added assurance that you will have been the only person to use the tub).

In order to provide the highest level of care to our lovely homebirth clients, Alamo Area Midwifery no longer provides hospital doula services. However, we have a fantastic associate who is a practicing doula and who is very enthusiastic about assisting women and their families to birth in the hospital setting.
Please contact Tina Castellanos for further information regarding her doula services.
