Alamo Area Midwifery began as Embrace the Bump in 2005 as a Pregnancy Art company, here in San Antonio, TX. During that time, I continued my pregnancy and birth studies and began my midwifery internship. After many intense and very educational birth experiences in my training with several highly experienced local midwives, I began the process of NARM certification and Texas DSHS licensure. Following my internship, skills learning and a period of independent study, I sat for the national written exam for midwifery. I became a Certified Professional Midwife approximately one month later (September 2008) and Texas Licensed Midwife in November 2008.
Since becoming licensed, I have worked hard at developing my private practice into one that is accessible to every woman with a low-risk pregnancy. No healthy woman should be limited in her choices of how she will deliver her baby (or babies). For some, their minds are calmed by the thought of birthing in the hospital. There are others out there, myself included, who feel that a medical setting is simply not the right place (for them) to allow a perfectly natural human process occur. They feel safer at home. It is this thought that is the foundation of my entire practice. I make myself available to a woman and her family to assist them in their transition into being a complete family; naturally, safely, and most importantly HAPPILY!
